MARUPAKKAM FILM COLLECTIVE

Marupakkam Film Collective is a media activist group working in Tamil Nadu since 1996 making, screening and teaching documentaries. 

We have organised more than 100 film festivals, 50 workshops and 500 film screenings since then.

We have also made more than 20 documentaries on various social themes.

We have been making mobile phone films and teaching mobile phone filmmaking since Corona lockdown.

நாங்கள் ஏன் ஆவணப்படங்களைத் திரையிடுகிறோம்?

ஆவணப்படத் திரையிடல்களின் போது பார்வையாளர்களுடன் இணைந்து அறிவுப்பூர்வமான, கலைப்பூர்வமான சூழலை உருவாக்க முயற்சிக்கிறோம்.

நிதானமான உரையாடலுக்கான வெளிகளை உருவாக்க நினைக்கிறோம்.

நம்மிடையே இருக்கும் வேறுபாடுகளைக் கடந்து, நம்மால் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியும் என்று நம்புகிறோம்.

ஏனெனில் அத்தகைய சூழல் இப்போது அரிதாகி வருகிறது. எங்கிருந்து யார் எந்தத் தாக்குதலை நடத்துகிறார்கள் என்று கூறமுடியாத, சமூக ஊடகங்களில் ஆபாசவசைகள் நிறைந்த சூழலில்

பொய்ச்செய்தி, வெறுப்பு, புரளி, முன்முடிவு ஆகிய ஆபத்துகளுக்கு இடையே இத்தகைய கூடுகைகள் மிகவும் முக்கியமானவை என நாங்கள் கருதுகிறோம்.

எனவே தான் நுட்பமான வாதங்களை வைக்கக்கூடிய, ஆழமான புரிதலுக்கு வழிவகுக்ககூடிய, துணிச்சலான ஆவணப்படங்களைத் தொடர்ந்து திரையிடுகிறோம்.

Our Films :

We have made films on Caste Injustice, Development Questions, Nuclear Radiation and Hegemony & Consensus.

Our well known films are SHIT, NOTES FROM THE CREMATORIUM, SERUPPU, Radiation Stories : Koondankulam,  DOLLARY CITY & MY CASTE.

For the list of films and synopsis 

Currently we are completing a series of documentaries on Working Women, focusing Thirukazhukundram - a small town near Chennai, India.

Our Mobile Phone Films :

We have made more than 50 videos using mobile phones reaching out to the nature finding poetic and philosophical answers.

We have also developed an unique, organic and original narrative while recording and editing those videos. 

Our Curation :

We have curated many thematic film festivals for various institutions, film festivals and organisations such as IDSFFK, SIGNS, Azim Premji University, St Joseph's University (Bengaluru), EFLU, Nalsar (Hyderabad) and more.
